Packaging Tips That Enhance the Value of Your Brand
Hello! We’re Colosseum Corporation, your Global Logistics DX Partner.
Following the recent expansion of fulfillment services at our Los Angeles (LA) facility, we’re excited to share the story of developing and implementing COLO Global at the LA Fulfillment Center. Colosseum's Solutions Team and Operations Team collaborated to design a logistics solution optimized for the U.S. market by thoroughly analyzing the distinct logistics environment and factors unique to the region. Over the development period, the teams made multiple visits to the LA Fulfillment Center to study on-site workflows and operational differences between Korean and U.S. logistics centers, conducting in-depth field analysis.
Key Needs and Improvements Identified
During these visits, the team pinpointed three primary areas for improvement:
To address these needs, Colosseum focused on transitioning logistics processes and operational frameworks away from reliance on human resources and towards solution-driven automation. Indeed, cultural and operational differences were key considerations. One critical element was developing a real-time monitoring system.
In Korea, logistics center employees are often full-time workers who specialize in specific tasks over extended periods, making them highly skilled. In contrast, the U.S. labor environment, with its flexible labor laws, heavily relies on temporary workers. As a result, it’s common for workers to be assigned new roles daily.
This dynamic creates frequent department shifts and broader job scopes compared to Korea. Additionally, cultural diversity in the U.S. workforce can lead to different interpretations of the same situation based on individual backgrounds.
Considering these differences, our Solutions Team designed COLO Global to prioritize automation. The solution ensures that even individuals with no prior logistics experience can follow system-generated instructions to complete operations accurately.
We also enhanced the real-time monitoring system, enabling quick error correction and feedback for order changes, cancellations, and warehouse operations. This system improves decision-making efficiency and allows workers to handle tasks productively, regardless of their experience.
For e-commerce sellers, COLO Global integrates seamlessly with global platforms like Amazon, Etsy, and Shopify, offering streamlined order management and a more user-friendly experience.
A significant part of our efforts involved redesigning logistics processes. During the planning phase, we prioritized optimizing the workflow for logistics center workers by thoroughly analyzing extensive data.
Our goal was to systematize traditional manual processes into data-driven workflows, enabling maximum efficiency with minimal effort.
To gain firsthand insights, our team members worked as logistics operators during the day to understand on-the-ground operations and focused on development tasks at night, working tirelessly around the clock.
The most challenging aspect was aligning the solution, data, and on-site operations under one cohesive system. Differences between Korean and U.S. logistics environments posed significant hurdles, particularly during the early stages of development.
However, working directly in operations helped us better understand the disparities, ultimately leading to a solution that enhances efficiency for warehouse operators and provides cost-effective logistics solutions for e-commerce sellers.
Delivery cost optimization was another critical focus area.
In the U.S., where domestic delivery covers vast distances, costs vary significantly based on distance and package size. This complexity necessitates a system that can preemptively identify the most cost-effective delivery options.
To achieve this, we incorporated experiential data from local logistics experts (FDs) into the solution. For example, even if a shipping carrier recommends certain materials or routes, FDs can override the system when they determine a better alternative based on their expertise.
These adjustments are saved within the system, ensuring improved options for similar future shipments.
We enhanced features like safety stock management, accounting for longer timelines in U.S. logistics due to its vast geographical scale. By doing so, we aimed to prevent losses or customer claims caused by delayed shipments due to inventory shortages.
COLO Global is the result of close collaboration between our Solutions Team, known for its meticulous analysis and planning, and logistics experts (FDs) with hands-on operational expertise.
In Korea, logistics systems tend to focus on cost optimization, whereas the U.S. emphasizes accuracy and reliability to minimize variability across all aspects of logistics, including shipping, pricing, and returns.
Through this project, we combined the best aspects of Korea's human-centered logistics and the U.S.'s solution-driven operations into one cohesive system. I’m proud to have developed a solution that positions Colosseum as a comprehensive global logistics partner, making this experience deeply meaningful as a team member.
At Colosseum, we’re accelerating our efforts to become a global logistics partner by enhancing mobile convenience, building barcode systems, and strengthening location features. Backed by COLO Global, we plan to offer seamless global logistics services—including storage, shipping, returns, and settlement management—at the same level of convenience and accessibility as in Korea.
